Wind Energy
Nautec entered the onshore or land based renewable wind turbine market with our UHPC products in 2016. The products are being used in the structural connection between the gravity foundation and the turbine tower. In order to enter the renewable market, two of our UHPC products have gone through a rigorous test and certification program with European institutions. The certification covers both a U-certification, which is needed to enter the German market, and a CE certification according to EN 1504 for the rest of Europe. The technical performance of our UHPC products is documented through a large test program at MPA (Germany).
This program included creep and fatigue testing and we have carried out large-scale trials at low (European conditions) and high temperatures (tropical conditions) to demonstrate the performance of our materials under severe weather conditions. As a result, we are licensed with the world’s largest turbine manufacturer Vestas to supply UHPC for their turbine foundations. The offshore renewable market is very similar to the offshore oil and gas market as the structures and installation principles are similar.
We have been in the offshore installations market since Nautec’s inception in 2011 but only recently, as a result of DNV Type Approval for two of our UHPC products, NaX® Q110-E and NaX® Q140-E, entered the offshore wind market. NaX® Q140-E has been developed for the mono-pile market, whereas NaX® Q110-E, which is a silo storage and transfer compliant product, has been developed for the jacket foundation market. As of today, the products have been used for the installation of foundations in price competitive China as well as for floating wind foundations in Norway.
