PNG Mining and Petroleum Conference

The PNG Mining and Petroleum Conference, hosted by the PNG Chamber of Mines & Petroleum, was held this year in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from 24 – 26 November. Nautec was well represented at the event with this year’s theme being “Opportunities in Challenging Times”. The conference was opened by the Prime Minister of PNG and had several keynote speakers over the 3 day gathering including the PNG Minister for Petroleum & Energy and representatives from ExxonMobil, Total, Oil Search, InterOil and Kumul Petroleum Holdings amongst many others. The common thread with most presentations from the major operating companies was about their struggles with the recent downturn in their respective industries and their methods of balancing the adjustment to the current business climate whilst preparing for new opportunities ahead. The event was attended by over 800 delegates and gave the Nautec team a chance to expand on our current network in PNG and come away with some productive meetings. Next year’s event will be held in Sydney, Australia.
