Nautec was contracted by Brunei Shell Petroleum for the supply of UHPC grout material, epoxy sealant and grouting services for the repair and sealing of Well CP-240 in the champion field, offshore Brunei.

Disciplines

  • Detailed Engineering Design
  • Supply of grouting material and equipment
  • Supply of certified offshore grouting personnel
  • Offshore grouting work

Scope of Work

The scope of work for the grouting programme is summarised below:

  • Preparation of the grouting procedure and supporting project documentation for grouting works.
  • Supply and delivery of NaX® B210 (formerly B190) grout material and binder/lubrication mix.
  • Provision of a detailed engineering design report.
  • Provision of twelve certified grouting personnel for offshore 12-hours operations.
  • Provision of grouting equipment including grout hoses, valves and other relevant installation equipment using primary and secondary grout inlets, couplings, nipples etc.

The final close out report (COR) containing all relevant QA/QC documents, was submitted to the Client upon completion of the programme. The COR includes the following:

  • Onsite quality monitoring reports (amount of grout mixed and pumped, temperature, start and stop of grouting operation, total consumption of grout).
  • Daily reports comprising of information summarising the grouting work, progress and total consumption of grout.
  • Provision of test cubes for 28-days compressive testing; post-grouting test results are completed in third party certified lab.
  • Certificates of completion for grout filling.

Services

  • The existing old cement was removed down to 1.2m from the top of the 30” conductor.
  • A layer of Epoxy grout was poured on top of the existing cement to create a barrier seal. The Epoxy bonds strongly to steel and creates the main pressure seal and first barrier against micro-annuli leakage along the steel surfaces.
  • The steel clamp was positioned on top of the conductor using a chain block and bolted tight to ensure the neoprene seals well against the external surface of the conductor.
  • A layer of NaX® B210 UHPC was pumped into the conductor annulus and around the outside of the casing. This greatly increased the micro annuli leak path along the casing, where the leakage occurred, by over 60%.
  • The UHPC sleeve was cast using a fabricated steel bolted clamp.
  • NaX® B210 is an impermeable UHPC grout with a compressive strength of 210 MPa (similar to that of Mild Steel).

Project Performance

  • Both the Client and the asset team were pleased with Nautec’s proposal and the service we provided to address the annular pressure instability.
  • Our team’s comprehensive approach involving cleaning, epoxy sealing, clamp and grouting delivered the desired results.
  • The repair job was completed efficiently and normal well operation has been resumed after pressure testing.
  • All deliverables were achieved.
