SPE conference held in Bali, Indonesia

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) holds an annual Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition (APOGCE), which alternates between Indonesia and Australia. For the first time, the 2015 event was held in Bali from 20th-22nd October and attracted more than 900 delegates.

Kevin Lay, Technical Director of Nautec’s Subsurface and Wells group was invited to attend the conference as panel speaker in the session entitled “Sustaining Asset Integrity in Asia Pacific – Is there Advantage in a Global Outlook?”

The other distinguished panellists were Head of Integrity Division, Total E&P Indonesia, general Manager – Subsurface Asset Management, PETRONAS and an independent drilling and completions consultant who had recently held the position of D&C Adviser / Technical Authority at Woodside Energy.

The panel session was very well attended and created some interesting discussions around this important and complex topic and it was acknowledged that a lot more work is required in this area. A number of papers covering various aspects of asset integrity were also presented during the 3 days of the conference.

Mr Lay is a member of SPE’s Regional Technical Advisory Committee. He also sits on the Steering Committee for SPE’s Well Integrity Global Integrated Workshop Series (GWIS) and is a member of the Technical Programme Committee for the APOGCE to be held in Perth in October 2016.
